If you know me, then you know I have a shitload of videos. a whole dedicated hard drive's worth. It's part of my whole "if you're into something, go nuts with it" mantra or how Jim Greco lovingly put it, "don't dabble".
So i've decided to put a list of MY MOST WATCHED VIDEOS OF 2008 to help keep the blog from getting stale.
and here, here it goes:
10: Globe's "United By Fate Episode 3: Jake Duncombe and Matt Mumford"
I watched this all alone in our Barcelona apartment one night, not expecting all that much but was totally blown away by the ATV-ness of Jake Duncombe, and Matt Mumfords new found appreciation for skating strictly tranny. Jake's tricks on that obstacle pictures, and Matt's full cab nosepick ender had me going back to the website numerous times before the atrocious episode 4 with Greg Lutzka came out.
9: Traffic's "Moving in Traffic"
A NEW BOBBY PULEO PART? A NEW JACK SABBACK PART? I feel like if I need to say why I watched this, you don't really get it. I was not a fan of the Puleo part at first though, took a few watches. Problem was comparing it to the greatness that was Static 2, or even his Penal Code part. It's not as good as those, but still damn good (and nice to see him skate without masturbatory Josh Stewart building shots)
8: Epicly Later'd's John Cardiel episode
This is the only video on this list I physically have in my possession, and I was quick to put it online as soon as I could to the [SV] community. We'd all sit in our room in Spain and watch these episodes night after night as a testament to one of the worst tragedy's in skateboarding, the fact that John Cardiel cannot move his legs how he used to. Inspiring, funny, and plain fucking rad.
7: Danny Way's part in Plan B's "Superfuture"
When that issue of TWS showed up at my door I couldn't believe the cover shot of the 360 flip. Despite the kooky shit he's said in interviews, Danny proved he was completely untouchable again with that little section. Flipping in to grinds on the QP of the Mega? Kicklipping right into the QP of the Mega? 360 Manual without a helmet going like 40 MPH on a skateboard? Rocket Backflip Body Varial? FS heelflip in a pool? This dude is a machine, and I sat here watching that part literally laughing out loud and the ridiculousness of it all.
6: Girl and Anti Hero's "Beauty and The Beast"
Everyone's wet dream of a tour, that had an accompanying video as dreamy as the tour itself. I don't remember Frank Gerwer doing a single trick in the whole video besides getting up to the roof of the van without using his hands while holding a beer, and that's good enough. Mike Carrolls Japan, BA's jersey's, Robbie Russo proving it's possible for little kids to skate, and Tony Trujillo proving why he never has to come out with another part again was enough to see this 1000 times everytime I was at V's house alone.
5: The Unused 30 minutes of throwaway Fully Flared footage from "The Final Flare"
This showed up online about a week ago, and I've already played it out so much that I'm completely sick of it. Almost wish that the whole video would have been made like this, and alot of it could have been in the final video. Carroll's footage is gold, my favorite being an early take on the same line he did in the Super Champion Funzone extras.
4: Toy Machine "Lurkfest"
A very slept on video, which is also another really great tour video, which is something Toy Machine hasn't exactly excelled at in the past (although I love all of them regardless). I was surprised to see myself watching this as many times as I did, it was quick, and the street section at the end was hardly throwaway. Ed making fun of his constant noseblunts no one will/should ever get sick of is also always a reminder of how rad Toy Machine is.
3: Krooked "Gnaughty"
Better than "Gnar Gnar", this one's gimmick was that it was all filmed with digital camera's on movie mode. This is one of the best Van Wastell parts, and makes you see how lightfooted he was. Also showed you that Brad Cromer is the shit before you saw that part of the DLX site.
2: "A Happy Medium"
The followup to my favorite video of 2006 (suck it Enjoi) Peter Vlad's Wonderful Horrible Life, this video is serious, let the most fun you'll watch. John Motta has last part, but yet all the parts before it seem better. It's like watching real people skate that you can relate to, all set to a funny soundtrack with strange footage in between parts. This is also the only video on this list I feel bad about downloading, because the dude who put this on together deserves anyone's money for this one.
1: "Baker Has a Deathwish"
I don't care what sort of skating you're into, odds are you still think Baker is awesome. This was more than just a promo, and felt like Baker 3, and Tilt Mode's Man Down had a child. Beagle has an eye for some really funny shit, alot of people I don't think do, and it made this video to be easily my most watched, and most enjoyable to watch video of the year. If you can keep a straight face during Antwuan Dixon's footage after his part, there must be something wrong with your brain. There's an abundance of unicycles, weed, and straight up fucking off that makes me hope they continue to not take themselves seriously forever.
